Struggling with Karma

Posted On: Tue, 2008-07-01 22:34 by sitapati

In this material world everyone is dealing with their karma. This is what perpetuates further karma. Every action has a reaction, and every reaction to that is a further action.

The key to transcending karma is not to deal with your karma, but to deal with how you deal with your karma. It is about stepping into that gap between stimulus and response and with purified intelligence operating on the basis of transcendental knowledge and under guidance, changing the decision-making process that you use.

It's not about making a different decision. It's about making decisions differently.

So the steps for this are:

  • Purify the intelligence - by adopting a lifestyle of purification.
  • Gain transcendental knowledge - through study of scripture and hearing from saintly persons.
  • Get guidance - establish a committed and accountable relationship with a spiritual authority who will provide the "pole star" as the material conditioned mind continues to flicker and produce its karma-perpetuating plans.

Pretty straightforward in theory, practically impossible in practice. The way to make this possible in practice is to live in the association of like-minded individuals who are also doing this, and largely neglect the association of others who live by a karma-perpetuating value structure.

Hare Krishna farm certified organic

Posted On: Tue, 2008-07-01 22:53 by sitapati

This week the ISKCON New Govardhana farming project in Australia received organic certification from the national Organic Growers Association. After several rigorous inspections, the farm was granted a certificate of compliance which allows all fruit and vegetables grown to carry the official OGA logo.

New Govardhana is 90 minutes drive south of us. I am hoping that we can buy organic produce from there for use at Atma Yoga, where we serve all organic. Let's see what's available at the moment.
